Flowers along 152nd Avenue
Colorful flower forms turn streetlights into public art in Redmond’s Overlake neighborhood.
Horatio Law developed the concept through art workshops with Redmond residents. Participants combined flower forms into hybrids that celebrate the community’s diversity. Their ideas helped shape the permanent artwork along the pedestrian corridor.
The translucent petals bring color to the street by day; integrated LED lighting illuminates the flowers after dark.

Building the aluminum bases
We fabricated all of the aluminum bases for Hybrid Flowers, working from Horatio Law’s artistic concept.
The bases house the LED fixtures, drivers and wiring. The Koda XT polycarbonate resin petals attach to the aluminum assemblies.
Inside the assembly
Inside the aluminum housing
The aluminum housing provides the connection for the petals and space for the lighting equipment around the lamp post.
These shop views show the curved outer wall, internal supports and central opening before the finished flower is assembled.

Fitting the petals
The resin panels meet the aluminum base at the bottom of each flower. We checked the fit of the petals and their mounting points against the aluminum bases before installation.
