The artist’s idea

The idea behind Energy and Memory

Norie Sato designed the spiral sculpture and companion wall around the idea of people gathering at Hidden Creek.

The spiral expresses movement and energy. The wall brings repeated forms together into a more ordered arrangement.

In both works, many individual pieces make up a larger whole, reflecting the people, landscape and shared memories connected with the center.

Fabrication

Building and delivering the spiral

The spiral and open crown were fabricated in the shop, then secured on the trailer for delivery to Hidden Creek.

Fabrication

Forming the stainless steel wall pieces

We used a custom-built form and die to make the conical pieces. Polished stainless triangles sit behind the painted, perforated forms.

Custom-formed stainlessHalf the conical forms use scalloped-texture 18-gauge stainless. The other half use stainless punched with a custom pattern.

Perforated backingThe mounting frames are backed with perforated stainless steel.
