The artwork

Inspired by birds in flight

Susan Zoccola’s Murmuration takes its form from the shifting patterns of birds flying together.

More than 2,100 acrylic spheres, finished with aluminum leaf, form a four-story composition of reflective shapes suspended through the Pacific Place atrium on stainless steel rods and cables.

Our work

How we built the frame

We fabricated the overhead support frame from 3½-inch aluminum pipe, with a grid of ¼ × 2½-inch aluminum flat bar welded inside.

The grid provides attachment points for the cables that suspend the sculpture.
